TOPIC: MVP: ReDux. My End of the Year Awards.

Um look at Beckett's numbers from the last season.

Also try spell check.

Beckett anchored a rotation that was injured and underperforming.

And last time I checked, when it comes to MVP, it is how you do during the season, not just down the stretch.

If that was true, then Pujols would have been the MVP over Braun, but Braun had better overall numbers, but Pujols led his team to a championship.

I think the writers got it right when they gave Verlander the award. He definitely deserved it. I disagree on Beckett - he had a great year but a guy like Verlander who turns it up a notch to close out a pennant race is always going get more votes than a guy who's only ok down the stretch even if he had a great year overall.

Also, I think Pujols should have won the NL MVP over Braun, since Braun had Fielder and Pujols practically carried the Cardinals by himself.

beckett's stats look great but he was the main reason for the collapse, he caused the head coach to give up the team. Ya ok he had great stats but when you look at the harm he caused to the team he was horrible, telling lester and the rest of the pitchers its ok to drink in the dug out and before your starts he was a horrible team player and had no want to win on this team, "oh ya becketts stats ohhh so good" nono he is the reason for the collapse, cy youngs lead there team they dont tell them its time to go screw around.
boston.cbslocal.com/2011/10/14/felger-ma...lger-and-massarotti/ listen watch it what ever. the facts are straight Lackey and Beckett caused there head coach his job there team a play off spot and there strength and conditioning coach a job. ya he was kicked to for their poor performance. You could also say that a-gon gave up on the team when he saw what they were doing to and that could be part of why he didn't do as well.. Beckett is like a cancerous cell he cares more about having fun then winning.

Also last on the red sox i hind it funny that Hnery says "Larry Lucchino runs the red soxs" but he wasn't fired.

You know, it's funny how fickle fans are. I am not taling about you Pens fan, I am talking in general.

GIve Beckett respect.

The man, along with Curt Shilling brought the Red Sox their first 2 championships in close to 100 years.

And Verlander was the #1 pick for MVP and Cy Young. He will go down as one of the greatest and most underrated pitchers of all time.

I believe he was the "Steven Strasburg" prior to Strasburg. He just played on a small market team with less media attention than a team in the big time media markets.

But Beckett this season had to get consideration. You can't fault 1 player for the acts of an entire team.

But when it comes down to it, give credit to Beckett for this season. When Bucholtz and Lester was injured and they had no 3,4,or 5 spot in the rotation. He pitched as well as he possibly could for as long as he could, and I can guarantee to you that he was probably injured and played through it for his team.

And collapse or not, it did take the Rays a 7 run comeback in the 8th and 9th inning to seal the Red Sox fate.

There were other players on that team that didn't live up to to expectations.

Youkilis was injured for most of the season, Their $140m top OF signing was a first year bust, Lackey hasn't been anything like his time in Los Angeles/Anaheim/Whatever other city they want to associate with, and Dice-K out for the season, they had a lot to deal with.

I say Beckett only because he put up good numbers for a team that needed them.

And please don't forget that the trade of Hanley Ramirez for Beckett was valuable and had they not made that deal, they would have never been where they are, and that is a perennial contender.
