TOPIC: 2012 Top 20 Free Agents and Predictions

2012 Top 20 Free Agents and Predictions 1 year, 6 months ago #3010

This is The Iceman's Top 20 Free Agents heading into the 2012 MLB season with predictions. When that player is signed, I will put if my prediction was correct or incorrect.

1- Albert Pujols- Cardinals- I simply can't imagine him anywhere else. I know the Marlins have been interested but where do they put Gaby Sanchez? (Incorrect)
2- Jose Reyes- Marlins- Sadly, I think it's the end Mets fans. Hanley seems like bait because he's played with him and it's close to the Dominican Republic. (Correct)
3- Prince Fielder- Nationals- The Nats proved last year that they can spend money. With a need at 1B, Fielder seems like their first choice.
4- Yu Darvish- Rangers- I think that even if they do resign CJ Wilson, they'll still need another great starter. Jon Daniels says he wants pitching. And Yu Darvish seems like a good fit. He could also work in Toronto, Minnesota or Seattle.
5- Aramis Ramirez- Angels- Either them or Detroit. Jerry DiPoto probably wants to make a good first impression and fill the void at the hot corner. Aramis seems like a good choice.(Incorrect)
6- CJ Wilson- Royals- I know it's a shocker. But we all know they really need an ace. CJ can go for a decent price and the Royals have no quality ace. He would also fit with the Cubs, Marlins and Rangers again. (Incorrect)
7- Jimmy Rollins- Phillies- Ruben Amaro says Rollins is a priority. And I believe him. He'll do whatever it takes to bring back his leadoff man. (Correct)
8- Michael Cuddyer- Twins- He's been a Twin his whole career. That's where his attention is but he'd also fit in Pittsburgh, Boston or Seattle. (Incorrect)
9- Mark Buehrle- White Sox- Kenny Williams knows the fans will love to have Mark back. That's what he'll try to do. But Seattle, Toronto, Texas or Miami could try to offer. (Incorrect)
10- David Ortiz- Blue Jays- Blue Jays now know what Bautista can do. Anthopoulos wants an offensive machine and Big Papi's not a bad start.(Incorrect)
11- Carlos Beltran- Red Sox- With Papi predicted to leave and the failed trade rumors, Cherington should try for him.
12- Edwin Jackson- Mariners- Zduriencik knows King Felix is his only great arm. Why not try to improve the rotation with him?
13- Ryan Madson- Astros- With 2 borderline setup men closing games last year, the Astros should go for a quality man and surprise the league.
14- Hiroki Kuroda- Dodgers- Simple. He won't play anywhere else for now.
15- Yoenis Cespedes- Mets- Sandy Alderson could trade Angel Pagan to make room for this slugger from Cuba. I like those odds.
16- Carlos Pena- Brewers- With Prince probably out, they should go for Pena to be their 1B.
17- Heath Bell- Padres- He loves San Diego. So if they offer, he'll take it. (Incorrect)
18- Javier Vazquez- Twins- Terry Ryan clearly wants an arm. Why not go for Vaz?
19- Kelly Johnson- Blue Jays- Had a good September. That's probably bait for any team.
20- Wei Yin Chen- Rockies- They really need a guy to lead their staff. No MLB hitters have faced Chen so why not bring in foreign talent?

Please put in your top 20 and predictions please!

Bell might go to the red sox with pap in Philly just sayin they need a closer, and bard isnt that.

I agree that Bard isn't ready. I see them signing a non- top 20 closer such as Matt Capps or Francisco Rodriguez.

To mentor him, why not bring in Jason Isringhausen to be their other setup man. Experienced vets make young kids better

Great post, Iceman. Here are my thoughts on the MLB free agents :

Jose Reyes - unfortunately for Met fans like myself, I agree with you, and think Reyes is going to sign a 4 year $100M contract with the Marlins

Albert Pujols - I also agree, Pujols will stay in St. Louis

Prince Fielder - I think the Cubs will sign Fielder after missing out on Pujols. Theo needs to make a big splash this winter.

CJ Wilson - Nationals - they think they are on the verge of contending, and need another big time starter

Mark Buerhle - Yankees - No way the Yankees sit out the free agent market. Cashman said they're looking for pitching, and Buerhle makes a lot of sense.

Carlos Beltran - Giants. They need offense, and they gave up Wheeler to get him, they'll try hard to keep him.

Ryan Madson - Red Sox. Great twist to the Philles/Madson/Papelbon saga will be the two closers trading places.

KRod - Marlins - they'll miss out on Buerhle and Pujols so they'll sign Frankie to go along with Reyes as part of their "rebranding" process.

Here's a couple more for you - I say Rollins stays in Philly, Bell stays in SD, Darvish stays in Japan. Mets sign Grady Sizemore (wishful thinking, more likely they sign Rick Ankiel) and Frank Francisco.

maybe if we all by mets jerseys today the mets will have enough money to resign Reyes..

Vinnie- Darvish staying in Japan is a bold prediction. But, part of me reluctantly agrees.

Pens Fan- lol. But that'll be like 900 fans spending more than 100 million dollars
