TOPIC: 2011 MLB Mock Draft

2011 MLB Mock Draft 1 year, 11 months ago #989

So the MLB Draft isn't as big as the NFL or NBA Drafts, but it's getting to be more and more important every year as teams try to find you talent they can control cheaply. This year's draft on June 6th is considered very deep, especially with college pitchers. Here's my mock draft :

1) Pirates – Gerritt Cole, RHP, UCLA – Can throw 100mph. Has the potential to be an ace
2) Mariners – Danny Hultzen, LHP, Virginia – 3 plus pitches, potential #2 starter
3) Dbacks - Anthony Rendon, 3B, Rice – Great bat, some concern about shoulder injury
4) Orioles – Dylan Bundy, RHP, Owasso HS (OK) – Best HS arm 96 mph with a great cutter
5) Royals – Bubba Starling, OF, Gardner HS (KS) – Has offer to QB Nebraska, best athlete in draft
6) Nationals – Sonny Gray, RHP Vanderbilt – Great competitor, excellent curveball
7) Dbacks – Trevor Bauer, RHP UCLA – I LOVE THIS GUY ! Check out this video bit.ly/j8ky60 Workload a concern
8 ) Indians – Taylor Jungmann RHP, Texas – Big kid (6’6), very polished
9) Cubs – Francisco Lindor, SS, Monteverde Academy HS (FL), - Slick fielding/good bat HS SS
10) Padres – Matt Barnes, RHP, UCONN – Was ranked top 5 in preseason, vicious curveball
11) Astros – George Springer, OF UCONN – Great athlete, some concern about his swing
12) Brewers – Alex Meyer, P, Kentucky - 6’9, can throw 98mph with a crazy slider
13) Mets - Archie Bradley, Muskogee HS (OK) RHP - Committed to QB Oklahoma but throws 97mph w/best curveball in the draft
14) Marlins – Taylor Guerrieri, RHP, Spring Valley HS (SC) – Very raw, but great stuff
15) Brewers – Jed Bradley, LHP, Georgia Tech – Close to majors, but projects as a #3 starter
16) Dodgers – Blake Swihart, C, Cleveland HS (NM) – May need to change positions, but can hit
17) Angels – Mikie Mahtook, OF, LSU – Good power CF with speed and a good arm
18) A’s – Dillon Howard, RHP, Searcy HS (AK) – Moving up the charts as the season goes on
19) Red Sox – Josh Bell, OF, Dallas Jesuit HS – Switch hitter, one of the best HS bats in draft
20) Rockies - Javier Baez, 3B, Arlington Country Day School (FL)-Big power bat, some maturity issues
21) Blue Jays – Cory Spangenberg, SS, Indian River State College – Great speed, good bat
22) Cardinals – Jose Fernandez, RHP, Alonso HS (FL) – Mid 90’s w/good curve & slider
23) Nationals – Josh Stilson, RHP, Texas A&M – Projects as a strikeout reliever
24) Rays – Anthony Meo, RHP, Coastal Carolina - One of my sleepers – hard thrower, can be a #2
25) Padres – Daniel Norris, LHP, Science HS (TN) – Has slipped down the charts, may go to Clemson
26) Red Sox -Larry Greene, C, Berrian HS (GA) - Big power, probably move to 1B - Ryan Howard type
27) Reds - Henry Owens, LHP, Edison HS (CA) – More of a project, but has strong potential
28) Braves - Tyler Anderson, LHP, Oregon - Can reach major quick, but may only be #3 or 4 starter
29) Giants - Jackie Bradley, CF, South Carolina-Injury and poor season dropped him, but solid player
30) Twins -Brandon Nimmo, OF, East HS(WY)- His school doesn’t have a team ! Plays American Legion
31) Rays - Matt Purke, LHP, TCU - Toughest to predict – great stuff, but wants big $ - may not sign
32) Rays – Joe Ross, RHP, Bishop O’Dowd HS (CA) – Good delivery, with time can be a #2
33) Rangers - Josh Osich, LHP, Oregon St. – Would have been a high pick in 2010, but had TJS

This is great - thanks for researching all of these guys. I really like the baseball draft, even though I don't know a lot of the players. I know that the two UCLA pitchers are supposed to be really good prospects. I'm confident with the Giants - they always do a great job in the draft.

Although Cole gets more of the fanfare, I think Baur has been far and away the better pitcher this year. His stuff doesn't look as good and his methods are unorthodox, but I think he's better. However, you are probably right that Cole gets drafted before him. Think Rendon will go 1st though.

Looking forward to it!

Archie Bradley to the Mets would be great - if they could sign him, off course. A "safer" pick (with more signability), like a college pitcher, may be more likely (Jed Bradley ?).

Great job, think Cole will go one and Rendon 2, seems like Rendon has been around forever. We know that Sandy loves college pitchers/Of's who can catch the ball. Purke will be most interesting guy, top 10 talent. Where is SJU Of (Baltz?) going?

Interesting take. I've got a different view. KC reaches for college arm, Starling falls to the Cubs...www.chicagonow.com/blogs/cubs-den/2011/0...-mlb-mock-draft.html
